Ever since I could remember, I never looked forward to writing assignments. I hated creative writing assignments growing up because I never knew what to write about, and if I did, I could not put my thoughts into words. Freshman year of high school I was assigned my first ever research paper. To say I was terrified is an understatement. I went in blind on the assignment, I did not know how to write a formal paper, I did not know what a parenthetical citation was, and I could never remember the order of MLA format. Halfway through the process of the assignment, I fell in love with the research aspect. I love researching on my own and not being limited to one database. When it came to putting my research into words on paper, it was much easier than I anticipated. Through the process of writing my first research paper, I learned to develop effective writing strategies that worked for me. I became able to write interesting, straight to the point paragraphs without going off topic. I love writing informational and persuasive pieces because I find it easier to put my thoughts together in a formal setting.
