I really enjoyed Hidayatullah’s “Frames of Feminism” and how it talked about the diverse perspectives of feminism and Islamic feminism. It was interesting to read about the history and origins of feminism and its relations to the Quran. All my life I knew that men and women were not equal in Islam, but rather they are held to the same standard. Islam views women in such a high regard, that out of respect for the women, there are many obligations put in place. Modern-day feminism is much different than Islamic feminism, and the article highlights the differences in different definitions of feminism. Hidayatullah emphasizes the intersectionality within the feminist theory, but also sheds light onto the fact that all feminisms share one common goal: challenging systems of oppression. Hidayatullah’s “Frames of Feminism” opened my eyes about the complexities of feminism and how they are all intertwined with another in some way, which it very interesting.
