World Hijab Day Reflection 2/8

The World Hijab Day event was such a success, it really made my day. I was volunteering at the Arabic calligraphy table and was able to interact with all kinds of people. It was refreshing to see everyone from campus so engaged in something that is such a huge part of my life – Islam. The turnout was amazing and I had many unforgettable conversations. One that particularly that stuck with me was when an older woman asked me to write “liberation in humility” for her in arabic. At first I was tripped up because the saying doesn’t translate exactly in arabic, but once I wrote it I thought it was beautiful the way it pertained to both the hijab and modern-day events.

I also enjoyed seeing everyone try on hijabs and exploring the true meaning behind it. Seeing people I see around campus everyday trying on the hijab was so heartwarming. I’m glad everyone had a good time and I hope this event was just as special to everyone else as it was to me.
